Detroit: going nowhere, going somewhere?
Contrary to its haggard appearance and political puppetry, Detroit is thriving—not as the metropolis of yore, but as a city in severe crisis. A crisis of contradiction that fractures economies, challenges ideologies and decimates entire ecologies. D.Tour navigates the nuances of everyday life in the Motor City to understand the mechanics of modernity. Our chariot? A 2010 four-door Ford Fiesta equipped with a camera and a curious driver—me. The resulting insights and information were assembled into a multimedia presentation, D.Tour: Going Nowhere, Going Somewhere. This tour, though situated in Detroit, is illustrative of our greater social fabric. And, therefore, provided a provocative context for individuals participating in the 2nd Urmadic University Hothouse to discuss design, action, leadership and the future.
